What you can do today
SoundForge does fast 2-stem separation — it pulls the centered lead vocal out of a stereo mix to give you a clean karaoke / instrumental track, using center-channel cancellation. It's instant, needs no big download, and works best on pop and rock mixes where the vocal is panned to the center. Try it in the vocal remover.
2-stem vs 4-stem separation

- 4-stem — vocals, drums, bass & other (needs an AI model)
- 2-stem is fast and math-based; 4-stem is slow and AI-based
- Both are useful — karaoke and remixing usually only need 2-stem
Why we don't offer AI 4-stem separation (yet)
Full AI separation into drums, bass and other stems needs a trained model like Demucs. Those models are genuinely impressive — but the good open ones are released under non-commercial licenses (they're trained on non-commercial datasets), which don't fit a free, donation-supported tool like this one. We'd rather be honest than ship something on shaky licensing. If a commercial-use model becomes available, the groundwork to run it in your browser is already in place and we'll add it.
